Hello, I'm Nabanita

I am a scientist. Did my Masters in Physics and PhD in Atmospheric Sciences. My doctoral research was about predicting Indian monsoon summer rainfall during the months of June-September 15-20 days in advance. The intent of the thesis was to help the Indian agrarian community.

This was the time when I noticed missing link between the scientists and the common public. I observed, how, more often than not, the scientific outputs do not reach the common citizens or may get distorted over the process of simplification.

After completing my PhD, I joined the Center for Land, Ocean and Atmosphere (COLA), in George Mason University (GMU), Fairfax, VA. During my tenure in COLA, I started  actively working for science communication, climate change communication to be precise, in a project about turning climate change misinformation into learning lessons, led by Dr. John Cook of GMU.

Working with Dr. John was a career changing decision for me, as during that project I completely shifted my career focus and decided to work as a full time science communicator. Currently, I work as a freelance science communicator and researcher.

Apart from being a scientist, I volunteer to mentor and counsel students. I am trying to leading people to translate ideas to action for a meaningful difference, especially in my homeland. Being a sexual harassment survivor I am also trying to make people aware about sex education. A fighter against social stigmas and gender discrimination. A mental health advocate.

Homegrown in Tezpur, Assam, a beautiful little town in the magnificent North-eastern part of India. The place that gifts you the splendid ‘Assam Tea’ to rejuvenate you every morning for a wonderful start.

An Axomiya girl, who dares to dream big. Wise man says ‘You fail not because you didn’t try well. You fail because you dreamt small and hit it”. I strongly believe in it. Failure could never stop me in chasing my dreams. Difference is that I may take a little longer than you.

Making you smile is what I love to do. Keep smiling...you never know who is when falling in love with your smile!

Playing with challenges is my passion…harder the challenge, more is fun. Challenges make me creative.

Free soul…love to dance myself & wish if I were a bird.
